Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a whole-house float position covering ICU, PCU, and MS units at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Float position covering all three units: ICU, PCU, and Med-Surg (MS) — candidates must be comfortable working all three
- Large, 703-bed acute care Magnet-designated teaching hospital affiliated with a medical school, serving as the region's only Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric)
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- 13-week contract
- ICU patient ratio: 2:1 | PCU ratio: 5:1 | MS ratio: 6:1 (may flex up to 7:1)
- Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, meaning travelers may float 2–3 times per shift
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license required; a pending license is accepted only if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large Level I or Level II trauma facility
- Proficient in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care and management, arterial line management, and blood product administration
- Skilled in trach management and non-invasive airway support including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, ventilator management, and chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Must be comfortable working ICU, PCU, and MS ratios (up to 5:1 or higher)
- Two professional references required for consideration
- Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
Additional Information
- This is a whole-house float role requiring adaptability across ICU, PCU, and MS environments within a single shift
- Hospital holds Magnet designation for nursing excellence and is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
- Local candidates are accepted
